TITLE: Homebound Teacher


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A North Carolina Teaching License with Special Education certification is required
2. Teacher should have at least five years of teaching experience.
3. Strong background in math with some background in coursework or experience in Social Sciences is preferred. Such alternatives to these qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

REPORTS TO: Exceptional Children Director


SUPERVISES: (N/A)


JOB GOAL: To ensure that homebound children in the district identified as needing homebound services be provided with an ongoing educational program.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. This individual works with principals, teachers, counselors, 504 teams and IEP Teams to identify the educational needs of those students assigned to him or her.


2. This individual devises, in conjunction with the student’s regular classroom teacher and special education teachers when necessary, an instructional program for each assigned student receiving homebound instruction on either a long or short term basis.


3. This individual meets with each assigned student on a regularly scheduled basis for the purpose of providing instruction (up to 3 hours per week-more when time permits).

4. This individual works with the student’s parents or guardians, to establish an understanding and cooperative relationship based on the student’s needs.


5. The classroom teacher assigns the grades when report cards are due and progress reports are sent by the classroom teacher.


6. This individual keeps, maintains, and files such reports and records as the exceptional children’s director and principals may require, including attendance reports and case evaluations.


7. This individual assumes responsibility for obtaining textbooks and other teaching materials necessary through the procedures established. All materials come from the home school and classroom teacher.


8. This individual interprets the program for the homebound to regular district staff and to the community at large is required.


9. This individual keeps informed in a systemic way of trends and new methods in education, remaining always alert to possibilities inherent in such information for adaptation to the particular needs of the homebound instruction.

 

Terms of employment: Ten month year/Contract/FLSA Exempt


Starting Salary and/or Grade: Salary based on state salary scale.


Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Professional Personnel.

• Position is contingent on finishing all required duties and may involve minimal extended employment beyond the school year.
