Qualifications:                       

        1. A master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in counselor education.
        2. Licensure as a school counselor.
        3. Such alternatives as the Board may find acceptable.

 

Reports to:                     Principal

 

Supervises:                    N/A

 

Job Goal:                               

To provide a comprehensive guidance and counseling program for students designed to meet the specific needs of his/her assigned case load, and to support the educational, career, personal, and social development of students.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

  1. Conduct developmental guidance lessons in classroom settings and/or integrate guidance content into the regular education curriculum.
  1. Provide career orientation and exploration activities to elementary students and assist middle/high school students with the development and updating of career plans, using interviews and available assessment data.
  1. Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to identified needs of individual students or groups of students.
  1. Conduct or provide opportunities for staff development, conference with parents and teachers, and assistance to families with school-related problems.
  1. Consult and coordinate with district and community specialists such as physicians, school nurses, administrators, psychologists, and social workers regarding student needs.
  1. Assist with student registration and course selection, coordinate school-wide administration of the district's testing program, interpret group test results, assist with student identification and placement, and act as an advocate for students as system decisions are made.
  1. Plan and evaluate the school guidance program and pursue continued professional growth.
  1. Plans and supervises, when assigned, purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and evaluates their job performance.
  1. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  1. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  1. Such alternatives to the above responsibilities that the principal may deem appropriate and acceptable.

Terms of Employment:                     Ten month year/Contract/FLSA Exempt

 

Starting Salary and/or Grade:          Salary based on state salary scale.

 

Evaluation:            

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Carteret County Public School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Licensed Employees.
