TITLE:                                    HVAC Supervisor

 

QUALIFICATIONS:            

     1.HS diploma or GED and preferably technical trade school with a concentration in mechanical systems to include steam and hot water boilers, refrigeration systems and exhaust systems or an equivalent of education and experience.

  1. Minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in HVAC systems normally found in public schools or like institutions including maintenance and repair of systems using blueprints and schematics, project estimating and work planning.
  2. Valid North Carolina H3 and H2 HVAC license preferred.
  3. Environmental Protection Agency (CFC) certification is required.
  4. Valid North Carolina driver’s license required.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

REPORTS TO:                       Director of Facility Support Operations

 

SUPERVISES:                       Lower grade mechanics and contracted services on certain projects.

 

JOB GOAL:                            To perform all levels of HVAC work; to install, modify or repair heating ventilation and air conditioning systems; and review the heating and cooling requirements in order to make recommendations to achieve optimum system effectiveness and efficiency.  Act as lead for the HVAC department.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Follows all rules and procedures of Carteret County Public Schools, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school/department issues and as required by Facilities Operations.
  1. Assumes responsibility for safe and efficient operating conditions of HVAC equipment and controls and refrigeration equipment through the practice of recognized maintenance, repair and construction methods of the trade and direction from the Director of Facilities.
  1. Assists with coordination of routine HVAC needs, setting priorities, and handling more complex assignments.
  1. Reviews project site work and makes recommendations to the Director of Facilities on methods to handle.
  1. Supervises work of all HVAC mechanics in joint projects accomplished at the direction of the Director of Facilities.
  1. Provides guidance and technical assistance to others. Gives clear and concise instructions.
  1. Reviews assigned project work for maintenance and orders and schedules work at the direction of the Direct of Facilities.
  1. Assesses equipment and material needs and assists in the preparation of estimates, reports and requisitions as needed.
  1. Properly uses and cares for tools of the trade; troubleshoots and repairs HVAC related systems, equipment and/or components; and performs work from trade related blueprints, schematic diagrams, sketches and work orders.
  1. Properly instructs custodians and other maintenance workers on proper methods and procedure in mechanical system operations.
  1. Meets all schedules and deadlines in a timely fashion.
  1. Remains on-call in case of emergencies.
  1. Maintains a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
  1. Performs such other duties as assigned and required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Twelve month work year/At Will/FLSA Non-Exempt.  Salary based on local salary

 scale.

 

STARTING SALARY AND/OR GRADE:   Grade 69

 

EVALUATION:   Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Non-Licensed Employees.
