School Bus Driver

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Unless by permission of the school authorities, no pupil shall be permitted to leave the bus except at his/her regular stop,
  1. When a student's behavior is such that discipline becomes necessary, the school bus driver should follow the established procedure.
  1. The school bus driver shall follow the instructions of the Transportation Director or school administrator who has direct authority to administer the transportation program.
  1. No bus driver can alter or change, in any way, any bus route or schedule without direct supervision and permission from his/her supervisor.
  1. The school bus driver shall follow the exact bus route, including established bus stops, to which the bus has been assigned by the principal and adhere strictly to his/her good judgment in making a Report the necessary change in route as early as possible.
  1. As soon as possible, determine the length of time required to run your route and inform your passengers of the approximate time you will be at their stops.   1. The school bus driver must keep informed of all laws, rules and regulations pertaining to operating the school bus and shall cooperate with his/her supervisor and school officials in observing them.
  1. The school bus driver shall attend and participate in school transportation meetings.
  1. The school bus driver assigned to drive a bus must accept the authority and responsibility for operating safely the school bus loaded with passengers over state streets and highways.
  1. The bus driver shall not use or permit the use of the bus for any purpose other than to transport pupils and school employees assigned by the p1incipal to ride the bus to and from school on a regularly organized school day or an approved field trip.

13.The regular and substitute driver assigned to a bus by the principal or designee should:

  1. Set a personal example for the pupils to follow;
  2. Be clean in appearance, speech and habits;
  3. Refrain from the use of tobacco when driving or riding a bus;
  4. Use no profane language;
  5. At no time during the school day, on or off the school bus, use intoxicating beverages or take medication that may impair judgment or ability to drive a motor vehicle.
  6. Be polite, courteous and understanding, but firm and fair with all bus passengers;
  7. Be sympathetic and patient toward parents who may at times become anxious in regard to the operation of the bus;
  8. Be respectful and courteous to school officials;
  9. Never strike any passenger;
  10. Notify the school administrator at his/her school immediately if for any reason it is not possible to drive;
  11. Notify the school administrator ten days in advance of leaving the school bus driving position;
  12. Transport students to and from school in a safe and timely manner;
  13. Conduct a maintenance and safety check of school bus prior to beginning a route and report problems to the school administrator and mechanic;
  14. Notify school administrator of student behavior that does not follow school bus safety rules and regulations.
